Trip Overview

Everest Renjo La Pass to Cho Oyu Base Camp is one of the most challenging Himalayan experiences in the Everest region. The Renjo La Pass 5360m combined with Cho Oyu 8201m base camp, the world’s sixth highest mountain is a challenging trek. There is time to explore the Upper Gokyo valley with one of the best uninterrupted views of Everest.

Initially, the trail follows the old trading route from Tibet which crosses the Nangpa La, during the season there will be many Yak caravans taking this route to trade in Namche Bazaar. The Renjo La was, upon its first crossing, called the Pass of the Snow Leopard, as the first people to cross that way were members of the 19502 Everest recon expedition team who followed the tracks of the snow leopard that had attacked their yaks the previous evening. When they arrived in Gokyo the locals never believed that it was possible to find a weakness in the water shed. The Japanese later changed the name to the Renzo La.
