Sarita Lama is from the Tamang community and has a background in community health and trekking issues. She worked for 6 years as a nurse for Community Action Nepal and has lived in many remote communities in the middle hill districts of Nepal delivering community health care programs, empowering the work of the Mothers’ Groups and offering support with many different aspects of community life. This has given her a good insight into the many different ethnic cultures of the mountain people of Nepal.
She now uses her experience to ensure both friends and clients have good medical back up on trek and at the same time she involves her many contacts with friends in the remote communities to provide that little bit of extra special value for Off the Wall trekkers.
Sarita is heavily committed to the work of the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal, initially she was a Board Member but in 2018 she was elected to the role of General Secretary. The Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) is an umbrella association of the many trekking agencies in the country. It was established in 1979 by a handful of trekking operators who felt it was time to devise sound business principles as well as regulate the sector which was growing by leaps and bounds with every passing year. They also felt the need of a strong lobby group that could suggest to the government on several issues to promote the Nepali tourism industry and develop tourism as a revenue generating industry.
