Ian is from the UK but has been closely associated with Nepal for 20 years and spends most of his time here. When he and Sarita set up the company they looked for a name that gave an indication of the sort of treks they would deliver, Off the Wall seemed to fit the bill! Ian has over 50 years of experience of working in the mountains including leading people in Europe, Scandinavia, Africa, Ladakh, Tibet, India and Nepal. This experience backed up with the experiences of his time working in the National Mountaineering Centre in North Wales and other outdoor establishments which gives him a good insight into meeting the expectations of friends and clients and how to look after them in the mountains and foreign countries thus enabling them to get the best out of their visits to the Nepal Himalaya.
Ian Has lectured at the Nepal Mountain Academy and written a book on training and one on the more academic side of Adventure and Mountaineering Tourism (a readable version is included in the Reading Room titles.
Ian has been closely associated with Kathmandu Environmental Education Project for 14 years where he has delivered many training courses for trekking guides / leaders and is now an acting CEO. KEEP has the remit of dealing with Porter Welfare and environmental issues minimizing the negative impact of mass tourism in the pristine Himalayan middle hill regions. Follow the link to KEEP Nepal.
