Trip Overview

Makalu is Nepal’s fourth highest 800m peak situated even today in a very remote part of eastern Nepal. This high altitude trek takes in the crossing of the three highest trekkable Cols in Nepal which all cross the 6000m contour, trekkers will require basic mountaineering skills including the use of the rope, crampons and ice-axe. A remarkable expedition into the very heart of the mighty Himalaya!
Makalu Three Cols Trek is one of the challenging treks in Himalaya that is not only stunningly beautiful but also tough and ultimately rewarding. The trail winds through high mountains, crosses the Barun Glacier and finally ascends into the alpine valley of Khumbu across the very serious East Col 6100m, West Col (6,135m) and Ampu Labtsa 5,850m. The trek for those hardcore trekkers.
The Trek demands high physical fitness, extensive preparation, high mountain experience and intense determination to complete.
Although the trek requires the use of technical skills and equipment you don’t need to have an extensive mountaineering background to enable a crossing of the Cols, but it is only suitable for highly experienced and physically fit trekkers.
