Trip Overview

This is a relatively new trek that starts from Simikot, initially heading SE into the Dojam Khola valley, this is a broad flat bottom valley but is extremely remote and with no habitation for the next two weeks! The valley finds its way north towards the border with Tibet and one of the few crossing points. There are many opportunities for a camp site up the valley, however, at Tashi Lung the actual route becomes less defined, despite not looking too obvious the valley the route follows swings west before the prominent peak Changwathang 6130m. The valley passes several small lakes before eventually dropping into the Takchee Khola were there is a new road bridge which provides access to the Lapche La border crossing. There is definitely a feeling of the land time forgot about this area! Heading north along the dirt trail the valley opens out providing a chance to escape to the west, along the Sakya Khola. Again another break in the valley hills provides the opportunity to cross a small Col and eventually enter the living Museum of Halji, from here the trail is straight forward onto Hilsa and the border crossing into India.
This trek is effected by the seasonal weather which will inevitably dictate the route. Under the circumstance the following itinerary is only an indication as to how this trek will pan out – a true off the wall adventure!
