The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is a classic short trek. If you only have a few days this trek provides a great insight into Nepali life passing through beautiful Gurung villages and thick rhododendron forest which are in full bloom in the spring time (April) when the hill sides are brightly coloured with a broad range of ‘rhodi’ blossom. The trek provides magnificent panoramic views of Nepal’s most famous peaks from a sunrise ‘spectacular’ opportunity from Poon Hill – Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna I and Annapurna South all in their morning Alpine-glow. This is, as altitude goes, a low level trek but having said that one should listen to what the body is telling you. The Poon Hill trek is probably one of the easiest routes in the Annapurna Sanctuary there are many guesthouses and restaurants on the way with quite a few people in the trekking season. The Poon Hill is a great trail to do as an extension trek before attempting one of the more challenging routes like the Annapurna Circuit or the Annapurna Base Camp trek.
