The Damodar Saribung Trek is a remote and challenging adventure in the northeastern part of the Mustang region, offering rugged landscapes, ancient customs, and little exposure to Western trekkers. The journey begins in Jomsom, heading towards the Damodar Saribung Traverse, crossing high passes, including Saribung La (5600m), and camping at high altitudes.
After several days of trekking, the route descends into Phu, where trekkers can choose from various options for the latter stages of the trek. The Saribung Expedition is moderately difficult and includes a high-altitude pass and some technical climbing, including glacier travel and fixed lines requiring the use of a jumar. Basic winter skills are beneficial for this trek.
An alternative route allows the trek to be done in an anti-clockwise direction, starting from Phu, ascending the Saribung Pass, and eventually entering the Mustang Hidden Valley before descending to Jomsom.
